Choose Your Mood: The Power of Taking a Chance by Lynette Lovelace, Lifetherapy

By Lynette Lovelace, Lifetherapy

Today I am thinking about the chances I have taken in my lifetime.  I have taken quite a few, some have worked out miserably, but a lot have turned out in my favor. I think back to the times in my life where I have felt stuck.  I remember asking myself, “what are you afraid of?”, “what is keeping me from taking this chance?” and most importantly, “what is the worst thing that can happen if I try this?”

What I realized in my musings was that fear was keeping me stuck.  Fear of failing. Fear of standing out.  Fear of people laughing at me.  Fear of rejection. No one likes any of those feelings, yet they are completely normal and part of the human psyche especially when trying new things and taking on new responsibilities and opportunities.

But when we give into our fears we live a little bit less everyday.  We laugh a little bit less. We engage with people a little bit less.  Our decision making muscles start to weaken.  What I have learned most about taking chances is that we need to take them from time to time to feel alive.

When we take a chance, our senses heighten. Our awareness doubles and we are on the thrilling ride of opportunity for growth and change.  This can be scary, but moving through the fear and into taking chances can lead you down the road to more fulfillment than one can possibly imagine.
