When you were little and you got a bump or bruise, there was nothing more soothing than mommy’s hug. We hug our children but many times in adulthood there are more boundaries that prevent us wisely, and sadly, from hugging one another. While it might not be smart to hug your boss or your secretary, it’s certainly an option with your friends and family.
A hug communicates many things to a person willing and ready to receive your hug. It brings comfort and understanding. It shows compassion and sharing. Hugs allow us to connect with that person on a non-verbal level and it just feels good. The value of human contact can not be diminished. If one looks at the sad realities of children in orphanages, or of our elder population, those deprived of human contact suffer physically and psychologically, often failing to thrive.
It’s no surprise to me that hugging puts our hearts in close contact with one another. Our heart energies can mingle and charge each other. When we are working, we put our heads together literally and figuratively. When we are feeling, we need to put our hearts together.
